The powerful Lagos legislator and Senator representing Lagos East at the Red chamber of the National Assembly, Senator Sikiru Adebayo Oshinowo popularly called ”Pepperito” has died of COVID 19 in Lagos on Monday June 15, 2020.
The late senator had been battling with coronavirus within the last two weeks before he finally lost the battle. He was 64 years at time of his death.
Senator Bayo Oshinowo (Pepperito) became the second political high profile personality to die of notorious COVID 19 pandemic after the death of Abba Kyari, the former Head of Staff of President Muhammadu Buhari
The late senator only served at National Assembly for one year before his death. His interest in Senate stopped the return of Senator Gbenga Ashafa to the National Assembly in the Election.
Pepperito had the history of been the longest serving Member of Lagos state House of Assembly from where he become a powerful authority among his colleagues. Other members in the State House of Assembly treated him with awe.
As a kingmaker and respected leader in the Lagos State House of Assembly, they always called him “Agba Egbe” by these; he single handedly appointed and installed two speakers during his period in the house of assembly.
Although not much had been heard of him at the Senate chamber but his 16 years legislative experience at Lagos state House of Assembly could have been a great asset to the National Assembly and the Nation in general. Senator Sikiru Adebayo Oshinowo would be greatly missed by his colleagues.
Pepperito was a devoted Muslim who used to tell his colleagues at the Red Chamber that they should always do good and be conscious that that death is inevitable and will come at anytime without notice.
Senator Bayo Oshinowo was one of the powerful associates of former governor of Lagos State and the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Many believe that senator Bayo Oshinowo and the Interior minister Rauf Aregbesola are among the most loyal and ardent followers of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and that Pepperito’s death is a big blow to the camp of the APC National Leader.
The late senator started his political under Social Democratic Party (SDP) where he became youth chairperson. He worked with Senator Bola Tinubu and other people during the June 12 struggle and was regarded as one of the heroes of June 12.
Bayo Oshinowo death will definitely be a new turn in Lagos Politics especially in the Senatorial District he represented at the senate. The next question in the classroom of politics now is ‘Who replaces at the Senate’? Will Senator Ashafa go back to Senate? Time will tell but it well known that INEC will conduct another Election to get a new replacement for Pepperito at the Red Chamber of the National Assembly.
The late Senator was born in Ijebu Ode Ogun State on Monday November 28, 1955 He had his primary education at St. Augustine Primary School in Ijebu-Ode and later attended Isoyin Grammar School, Isoyin for his Secondary Education.
He served as a land officer at the Federal Ministry of Works between 1977 and 1979.
He later became the Managing Director of NITAL International in 1986. He held the position until 2003. He was also concurrently, the Managing Director at NIMCO International Company Limited, Extreme Piling and Construction Company Limited and NIMCO Dredging Company from 1990 to 2003.
Senator Sikiru Adebayo A.K.A Pepperito was a man of Monday, born on Monday (November 28,1955) and died on Monday (June 15,2020).
